| Scottish Grand National Day Out |
Following on from MDPL's successful golf day in September, we are now able to announce our 2nd "away day" in season 2009/ 10 for our league members.
Going with the popular vote in a recent web poll, MDPL are organising a day out at the Scottish Grand National, held at Ayr Racecourse on the 17th of April.
The day out will again be supported and subsidised by the league and the format of the day will be as follows:
Coach pick-up between 10.30 - 11am on the Saturday morning and arrive at the racecourse approx midday. The first race starts at 1.45pm and the last one starts at 5.35. The coach will pick everyone up outside the racecourse at 6pm and should arrive back in Motherwell around 7pm. For full details of the day's racing etc, visit Link
Cost for league members will be £16.00 which includes transport and Grandstand entry. If numbers exceed 36 people, then the cost may rise by up to £5 a head to cover the cost of an additional coach. In order to secure these prices, we need to book early (no later than 7th April), so sign up now on the relevant forum thread to make sure of your place at what is bound to be a great day out!
Our thanks also go to Superleague team sponsor Brian Breen of B-line travel for giving us preferential rates on the coach hire. |
| Return to Tenerife |
Following the success of last year's "tour" to Tenerife, another event is planned for 29th January - 3rd February 2010.
The format of the competition and holiday, sorry, "tour" will be similar to last year with a combination of singles, doubles and the headlining team events, where a Scottish select will take on the cream of Tenerife's pool players.
Despite a number of pool matches being played, all the boys found plenty of time to, erm... relax in the many bars, resturants and nightclubs that Las Americas had to offer. Thankfully there was a lack of cameras to provide any evidence. To top it all, we were very well looked after by our hosts for the duration of the trip, with transport and meals being laid on for our boys.
January will see the second annual event and players from across the the country (including MDPL) are being invited along for this superb break from our winter weather. Cost for travel & accommodation will come in at approx £170 and we will be staying in private villas on an exclusive complex.
If you are interested, please contact either George Fagan (Shuffler) or John Burns (JB) for further details or to secure your place at TT2010 |
| MDPL Golf Day 2009 |
MDPL members were joined by some of our Uddingston League neighbours and guests for the recent inaugural Golf day at Mouse Valley Golf course near Lanark.
All 27 players (plus our league treasurer) had a great day out and enjoyed some friendly competition in what was the first sunny day in about 2 months. |
| MDPL Supports St Andrews Hospice |
Following Bar 147B captain John Bryce's involvement with St Andrews Hospice last year, MDPL entered two teams in the St Andrews Hospice 2009 "Its a Knockout" fundraiser in Strathclyde Park. The team (Team "Roll It In")was involved in what was a great day for a fantastic cause.
Firstly the idea was to enter one team involving a representive of all 11 teams in MDPL ,but when Bob called to ask MDPL could enter two teams all the guys stepped up and "Just a Hit"entered also .

Motherwell District Pool League Win Scottish National Competition
Motherwell Pool League returned from Craig Tara in Ayr having won the Scottish Pool Association’s “Super 11’s” tournament In March.
After progressing from the group stages in top position, Motherwell A went on to defeat teams from Clackmannan, Dumfries, Bannockburn and Livingston, before facing Arbroath in the final.
The final was tense and closely contested, with a nervy final frame being required to separate the teams. Motherwell A won this and the 13 strong team were delighted to bring the trophy back home for the 1st time. The Motherwell “B” team also had a successful tournament, but unfortunately they were knocked out by a very strong Glasgow side at the last 32 stage.
