I think it should be non-seeded and ranked (+3 or 4pts on top of that normally assigned to an IM)
Might make the top 16 a bit more interesting and gives lower ranked players a real chance of picking up some extra points.

Cheers for some input here guys.
Stevie why would ranking points for the Scottish take away the glory of having the title?
I'm sure I can speak for all the previous champions and tell you this is not the case........everyone is proud to be the Scottish Champion and gain valuable ranking points in doing so.
It has always been unseeded with open draws, since day one so your comment about winning it with the aid of seeding is false.
I will leave the part you said about "beating the best" as Jas has already covered this flaw.
I don't think for one second that the most important event in our calendar should not carry ranking points and like JB, I think it should carry higher points than the IM.
Do you think any suggestion around the Scottish should be brought in immediately for 2010 that impacts one person or should it wait to the following season 2011 whereby everyone knows the full impact?
I think the romance and attraction of the Scottish is the open draw format and the chance to gain valuable ranking points for the lower ranked players, hence the main reason for such high entries.
Stevie, I have two further questions for you.....
1) Apart from the IM rankings, what do you think about the loss of IM5 to the lower ranked players (ie. giving someone else a chance to win)?
and 2) what about the effect this could have on the Super 11s and Super 15s events with the top 16 not required to qualify?
Cheers for the input. |

Am not sure if a ranking system should contain an unseeded event that carries more points than the seeded ones.
I don't see the point of all this talk about unseeded draws and romance, at the end of the day does it help the event to have a guy in the quarters by virtue of an amazing draw and then getting pumped by the first good player he meets?
Surely for the premier event in the calendar you would ideally like the best field you can get in the quarters.
In my opinion, whilst the most prestigious event on the calendar is unquestionably the Scottish, the hardest to win is the MJ grand final, there is no hiding place via qualifying areas or in unseeded draws just tough and progressively tougher matches all the way through. |

I agree John, the Scottish should be fully seeded and have additional ranking points becuase it is the premier event......similar to the snooker WC.
This is what Renzie should have suggested (and has done in the past), not the current proposal. |

I think if you fully seeded the draw, you may lose a number of entries, as everyone would be aware that they'd have to beat the best players to qualify for the finals.
I think a good few people enter just now - that don't play IM - as they have a chance of an open draw.

I agree that the reason for the high entry is down to players believing they have more chance to qualify from an open draw.
If they did go down the route of seeding then that would affect entries IMO.
I mean, who else apart from Renzie has complained about the current set up?
So should the whole SPA membership bend over just to suit a handful of folk who clamber to win team events with team G? |

I'm about to book the entertainment for the end of season bash (being held in the Joker on 4th June).
I have 2 decent acts to choose from, but I need to book them in the next couple of days. I need to know if its going to be more or less all players or if people will be taking their wives/ girlfriends to make sure the entertainment choice is as good as it can be. Please use the Poll on the right to let me know if you're bringing someone with you.
This should be a really good night out, where the presentation itself will only take 1/2 hour or so we will be laying on an excellent buffet, then there's the entertainment and good drink prices. There are a couple of other wee surprises lined up to help make this the best end of season night MDPL has seen in years. I hope we get a great turnout.

Is it possible to have a tick or a cross next to each post and then moderators can look at the ones which accrue a big negative rating, and then ban the person in question for a few weeks?
You know the type of thing you get in Youtube comments? |

I quite often like to play a game with the polls on the website. I like to try and guess who would vote which way. As superadmin I get to see who has voted for what when the poll closes.
So for a wee fun competition, who would like to guess who has voted yes or no to the current question. I'll not divulge who voted for what as the vote should be private. What I will do is give you a score (eg 6/11 right). What do you reckon? fancy giving it a try?
